Speaking Engagements

I have served as a National Learning Facilitator for the Teaching and Coaching Certification Program of the PGA of Canada for 12 years. I have also spoken at numerous education seminars for the PGA of BC on subjects from “How People Learn a Physical Skill” to “A Checklist for a New Student”.

I want my seminars to be interactive with participation from all in attendance. I believe that for most people, if they don’t get involved, they will not learn and will forget the content one day after leaving.

I can provide a half day or a full day seminar on a number of topics but my preference would be to present two seminars that are designed to help people who teach golf have a better structure and plan.  The first is titled “What to Teach – The Big Decision” and the second is “How to help people learn – Beyond the Theory”.  They are both designed as half day seminars and can be combined to provide a great one day experience.   The participants will leave with a system to decide when and what to work on with a learner and/or a much better understanding of how people learn a physical skill and what to do on the lesson tee to assist the process.

Workshops

I can bring my seminars to your facility for a private workshop. Whether you have 2 or 10 instructors, you want to deliver the best instruction possible. Some things that I can help with:

• program offerings
• instruction content
• follow up procedures
• marketing
• “Down to Earth” instruction, what to actually do on the lesson tee
• How people learn and what that means to creating learning environments
• Working with different learning stages in golfers

Consulting

It is not easy to build and maintain a top notch teaching program.  I have had to opportunity to be a part of, and oversee, some of the largest in the country, having revenues close to half a million dollars a year and employing up to 8 teaching professionals.

A great lesson program does many things for a facility beyond the obvious of employing golf professionals.  It lifts all departments by bringing more people to the driving range, golf course, and restaurant while promoting loyalty.  It has been shown that people who take lessons and are getting better and having more fun playing the game, will play more often and spend more money.

I conduct workshops involving all stakeholders, including management and golf professionals, in order decide on what your instruction programs should consist of and what success looks like. Things to consider could include:

  • pricing
  • program offerings
  • marketing
  • follow up with students
  • compensation
  • timing
